Researcher

Dr Xavier Crosta is a researcher with extensive expertise in diatom taxonomy, biogeochemistry and isotope chemistry to document Southern Ocean (SO) palaeo- oceanography and palaeo-productivity over the Pleistocene. He is a leading researcher in the field of Antarctic sea-ice reconstruction based on diatoms. His focus is on sea-ice seasonality over the Holocene timescale to interpret decadal-to-centennial and seasonal variations, and on external and internal forcing mechanisms behind the observed variations (solar activity, volcanism, climate modes, teleconnections with low latitudes, interactions between the different sub- compartments of the internal climate system).
