Researcher
Professor Rob McKay is Director of the Antarctic Research Centre at Victoria University of Wellington. His research is focused on sedimentary studies from drill core records in the Ross Sea to understand past variations in the West Antarctic Ice Sheet over the past 34 million years. He is particularly interested in ocean-sheet interactions during the geological past, and drivers for past retreat of marine-based ice sheets during warmer-than-present climates. He was co-chief scientist on the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 374 to the Ross Sea, a science member of the IODP Expedition 318 to Wilkes Land (East Antarctica), and the ANDRILL drilling project in the Ross Sea.
